PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:
It’s time to get in touch with all of our members and explain some of the upcoming changes going into effect for the new season.
In trying to always upgrade our cutting events, myself and several other board members met with many of the trainers at the cutting arena, this winter. We discussed how the cattle could be held with quieter movement in and out of the pen and keep the herd balanced in the center.
These were the two issues with our arena that most felt needed attention:
I will make a new holding area behind the center of the arena, which will allow a smoother flow and more balanced arena.
The next issue was the cost of classes. During our last show, we had a vote on the jackpots as this is a major cost factor in each class. The members overwhelmingly voted to keep the jackpots. The majority of trainers, however are not interested in the jackpots as most want a venue to train and school horses and jackpots just make the cost so much more.
We are not going to have jackpots in the Open, 10,000 Novice horse and the 3,000 Novice horse. The rest of the classes will continue to have the $25.00 jackpot added. This will make the training classes more reasonable and still allow those that want to, an opportunity to compete for the jackpots.
Last year, we were concerned with the cost of the overall cutting because of cattle increases and additional show expenses, therefore not comfortable with higher cost year-end prizes. This year we have a much better handle on costs and feel we can again make the $1,000.00 year-end cash award for Open, Non-Pro, and Amateur combined winners.
We will still have the champion and reserve buckles in each class and better awards for additional places.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the tri-tip lunch we had on the last weekend (last year). Lori said she can do similar events more often, so we plan to take advantage of the opportunity.
Janet Gaines has agreed to be our show secretary. The entry number will be in the next newsletter.
I am now in the process of having our club become an NCHA affiliate.
As always, I appreciate any constructive comments or criticism from any member. There are always ways to improve our club.
We are planning our first event in April, so we’ll see you all there.

In the past,
our sponsors donated year-end awards. We changed our format
beginning in 2001. In addition to year-end
awards in all classes, we have been jack-potting all classes.
The members have responded enthusiastically to this change.
Our new advertising program reflects another change for the
club. The Board of Directors believes it offers a much higher
level of visibility for our advertisers.
Thank you for your support.
