PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:
Well our first show is behind us. What a great show. Quite honestly, I was
a little overwhelmed when Chris told me that we were going
to have 147 works. I know, as do the rest of you, how long
a day 147 works can turn into. As it turned out, the day went
very smoothly from class to class and we actually finished
before dark.
The nice thing about being president is
I get most of the credit and it’s really a lot of other people
that do most of the work. Our new officers and staff are still
familiarizing themselves with procedures and in the middle
of this, they were able to put on a great, well coordinated
show. When a show goes this well, there are a lot of behind-the-scenes
people to thank:
-
First,
the trainers that gave freely of their time and expertise
in helping each
one of the amateurs.
-
You might have noticed the two young men
that efficiently moved the cattle and had the next herd
ready to go as the prior
class
ended, so thanks Josh and Steve.
-
We had several volunteers
from the California Cowgirls Drill Team that helped keep
the drive clear for cattle
moving and running the practice pen. These ladies stayed
all day.
-
Russ Elrod did an outstanding job as our judge with
consistent scores throughout the long day.
-
Last
but certainly not least, I want to thank the members of
Clements Cutting
Club that participated. The
atmosphere
of friendly competition and conversation, constructive
advice, people cheering for the first timers, and even
incredible
weather made the event what this club is all about.
The practice pen being in the upper covered
arena allowed the show to run without interruption and several
trainers took advantage of being able to work with horses and
clients in a one on one situation prior to going into a class.
This practice pen will stay the same for the remainder of the
shows as it works so well.
One note: We will move the 2000 limited
class back in the day to just prior to the 500 as it was last
year. It makes it too long of a wait between classes when the
2000 is early in the day and people show in both 2000 and 500.
The majority of the participants in the 2000 asked to go back
to using 3 used cows per cutter and paying less for the class;
therefore, we will go back to 3 used in the 2000. Thanks for
your input as it really helps us make it better for as many
as possible.
The next show is May 15th, 2005, with
signups by Wed. May 11th. Now that I know we can handle 147
works this smoothly, we might try for more as it gets dark
later in May. (actually we do have lights if it gets dark)
Great Show! Thanks to all.

CCC reserves the right to cancel all practices if there is a substantially high
amount of show entries.
It’s that time of the year again when we need to gently
remind everyone of the loping pen “ground rules.” Following
these simple guidelines can save everyone lots of aggravation,
not to mention keep it safe.
- Stay to the inside if you want to go slow
- Stay to the
outside if you want to go fast
- Try not to bunch up
and talk or stand still in traffic.
- Be kind and let
people in and out of traffic.
- Never stop in traffic.
- Groom and apply boots out of traffic.
- Do not tie your horse to a panel or other
loose object, find something secure.
- Do not tie stallions,
kicking or biting horses in the loping pen.
- Maintain
one direction
- Do not pony when space does not allow
it
- Always be in control of your horse.
- Yield to tractors and pedestrians.
- Keep your sense of humor!
Especially here at Clements Cutting Club where we cater to families and new members,
we need to remember that we all get nervous or get in
a hurry from time to time. Let’s
try to be patient with each other and most of all have
a good time. For more information please see NCHA rule
book pages 165-167.

In the past,
our sponsors donated year-end awards. We changed our format
beginning in 2001. In addition to year-end
awards in all classes, we have been jack-potting all classes.
The members have responded enthusiastically to this change.
Our new advertising program reflects another change for the
club. The Board of Directors believes it offers a much higher
level of visibility for our advertisers.
Thank you for your support.
