"The best little cutting horse club in the West." September, 2002

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

Hello -

Well, it is September already and time to nominate new board members. This is a very important job affecting all members, because we need board members to ensure that we have a club to produce shows for next year. Last year only three members filled out a nomination form. I hope we can do better this year.

Please help our show secretary by using the online entry form; if this is not possible, you can fax entries in as well.

Please note the change in the Futurity Practice time. Due to the uncertain number of works in the Open classes from show to show, the Futurity works will be held after the Non Pro class until otherwise noticed. IF YOU ENTER THE NON PRO CLASS, YOU MUST BE READY TO SHOW AT 8:00 A.M. SINCE THE OPEN CLASS MOVES QUICKLY AND THE FUTURITY PRACTICE GOES AFTER THE NON PRO,YOU HAVE VERY LITTLE TIME TO WARM UP. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

Please remember to hold November 16, 2002, on your calendar for attendance at our Awards Banquet. (Awards presented to top five in each class!!)

See you next time,

Bernie Talbot

2002 SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

The Clements Cutting Club offers a unique opportunity to our supporters for the 2002 season. For $250.00, we will provide the following advertising opportunities:

  • We will make a 3' x 5' vinyl banner which will be displayed at each cutting on the inside arena walls.
  • We will run your business card ad in each of our monthly newsletters.
  • We will put your ad permanently on our web site.

In the past, our sponsors donated year-end awards. We changed our format beginning in 2001. Instead of year-end awards in all classes, we have been jack-potting all classes. The members have responded enthusiastically to this change. Our new advertising program reflects another change for the club. The Board of Directors believes it offers a much higher level of visibility for our advertisers.

Thank you for your support.

Cuttin' Corner --
Unassociated Press WILTON, CA (UP) -- Herd in the Arena.

Sunday, July 22nd. Let's saddle up and play 'ketchup'. In the warm-up area one could see a redhead damsel-in-distress, namely Lynn, frantically waving for immediate help from her mounted knight without armor to save a live crayfish from a hoof pounding. Yep, John Ahern was at the ready to rush to the scene and dismount to pickup the crayfish, pinchers and all, and relocate it to a safer environment. Also herd one to say "That fence is alright, nothin' cept those cattle could git thru". Of course, "alright" turned out to be an "all left" situation. And so, it was a good old fashion cattle round up in Wilton! Good to see Helen and Norm Clark showing their handsome mounts. And a welcome goes to Kallie Collins, a first time performer upon Carolyn Reynolds' Highstyle Deliverence. Lots of works, good weather and along day of cuttin'. Good eye, Gavin, for such a very long day of judging! Also good to see the judge performing some meaningful futurity works.

Sunday, August 18th. Here come da judge! And judge she did! Here's a great big WELCOME and thanks to Debbie McGregor for rating some 106 works (less the Luke Bakey Futurity Works). Debbie has recently relocated back home to Ione and said her dad, Dave, is now up near Red Bluff. Good job again to Howard Hempstead for the timely provisioning of cattle for each class and work. Thanks also to Russ Elrod and Gavin Jordan and Jason for all the great turnback help! In the Non-Pro Class, Sue Jacobson demonstrated to husband Alan, why not to cut the big black and white pinto cow. With a little deeper turf footing she might have had a chance. Of course, Mary and Bob Fish were eagerly awaiting the work of their bright and new buckskin colt. Don Wright showed-up with a number of futurity horses and customers. Kind of expected to see his brother Dale who has a stable of horses nearby, jumpin' horses that is. Good news from Darlene and Leo Whiteman regarding a close call for Steamin Oak, get well soon. Herd on the road that Debbie and Dan Gouveia recently became owners of a nice CD Olena filly at Ft. Worth and has her in Texas with Tom McTaggart for the time being. In the Non Pro Class today, Bonnie Sharpe put on a great performance marking a 73 for the win. Okay, so where did the porta-potties go? I see, way up there! By the way, if you need to sell a truck just say the word. Right Syd? I'm sure Carol Avellino will enjoy many happy returns and miles. Hay, where's my commission? Herd from the TurnBacks - First TB; "Mr. _______ is going to buy a ho_se right next to you". Second TB; "Really, did you say house, or horse?"

And how about that great chow from Crystal and her portable food truck and crew.

(Time for a commercial: Need catering, call 745-5367 or 607-0957)

Did I see the senior Mr. Elrod at work watering down the spectator area? You bet! Hope he doesn't give up his day job makin' beautiful handmade stirrups, etc. And then there was Lee Livingston hustling along with a bunch of hose over his shoulders. Where'd he go? Very helpful volunteer workers, thanks! I herd that Suzan Rider Bonnington is going to enroll Bill into a school for removing fly masks. Should be an interesting equine curriculum. Herd in the barn that Bob Pulido is thinkin' bout borrowing' that black two-wheel horse cart parked next to Jeanne Lucas, the Show Secretary. Speakin' of stealin', I wonder if our Club President Bernie Talbot brought back any of that valuable Nevada Sagebrush during his recent visit to the Elko Cutting. Whoa!
